3- My analysis on today’s topic.
"It takes two years to learn to speak and a lifetime to learn to keep quiet," I want to focus on a couple of things that I believe will help run life, business, and finances a little better for someone like me, who’s always looking to mentor someone in every topic I do research on.
Social media and internet search have become the main sources for people to find clients, businesses, products, and services. However, you also find the person behind the wheel, and here is where I believe there’s a fracture in the system that creates a conflict of interest between who we are and who we need to become to run a profitable business. It is very difficult to keep your beliefs, political and religious choices hidden when you are trying to run an honest business. Not because you have to advertise your personal life, but because, in order to provide an honest service and earn your client’s trust, you have to start by being honest (proof of work).
In today’s world of easy judgment that chooses to destroy or cancel any character on social media or real life for a quick profit, or simply because it does not align with the trending truth; it is very difficult to be honest while keeping your clients or boss happy. And yes, I called it the “trending truth” because the narrative changes very quickly depending on the incentives. Let alone when it comes to family and colleagues. I won’t say friends, because those are by choice, and they seem to support us even when we say crazy things. LOL (laughing out loud.)
But, going back to business and social media interaction, it's incredibly easy to end up on the wrong side of a conversation when discussing a point of view. And here is where I believe the change can be made. What kind of business are you running? I believe that unless you offer life coaching, religious, or political advice services, posting those on your social media and making them available to all your customers is the easiest way to go broke. I don’t like it, but first impressions drive marketing and sales. One of the best-kept secrets in any industry is that as much as everyone loves honesty, they will cancel anyone who doesn't cause a good first impression or that clashes with the “trending truth” of whoever is hiring or paying.
Clients and bosses are willing to pay any amount of money for those who make them feel comfortable, safe, and on the right side of the argument. It sounds terrible, but hey, don’t hate the player, hate the game. How can we stay honest, interact in the social media world, and keep our sales or wages up? Well, I believe that we need to start by understanding that social media, unless you run it in a very private way, should only be used for networking or product and service advertisement only. You can discuss your life choices and political views at a friend's table and treat the social media world the same way you will treat any other type of advertisement venue.
Imagine getting to the restaurant, and in the middle of the menu, there are pages with the life and political views of every employee, the religious choices of the chef, and whatever the CEO had for dinner last night. Many businesses made the choice of creating a social impact in their community by expressing the owner’s private and personal beliefs because the trending truth and their political affiliations called for it at the time. However, as soon as the economic incentive changed and the politicians changed the narrative, those businesses suffered tremendous losses, went bankrupt, or are starting to fire many of the people that gave a great 1st impression but had no skills.
I like to use social media as an advertising tool only and keep my personal life, religious, and political views private. Not because I’m afraid of expressing them or taking a stand, but because I no longer need to be recognized for them, and I can exercise those beliefs without expecting approval from the outside world. But if anyone wants to know about them, they can ask, and I’ll be happy to express my point of view.
This is the part where arrogance needs to step aside, and we need to decide what kind of business we are running here. I’m in the business of creating resources that allow me to invest in my personal development and financial independence. And don’t get me wrong, financial independence is not just having money because people like the CEO of JPMorgan Chase need to go on live TV and say that #Bitcoin is a “pet rock” while preparing his bank to become a custodian for #Bitcoin and other #Cryptocurrencies because he needs to keep a political and business image that does not align with what customers are asking for. That’s not being financially free.
Politicians need to take stands for certain views that usually cost them voters, elections, and sometimes even family tragedies. To me, financial freedom is being able to be honest with yourself while running a profitable business, company, or job, at the same time that you are able to keep your privacy intact. That’s why I believe in what #Bitcoin has to offer to the world. Technology will keep moving forward, and those who go against private property, privacy, history and innovation will continue to end up staying behind. Plan accordingly and do your own research.
As I read today on a tweet by Codie Sanchez: “What Orwell failed to predict is that we'd buy the cameras ourselves, and that our biggest fear would be that nobody was watching.” - Keith Jensen
Unless we are ready to embrace our financial freedom or already achieve a certain level of success that puts us in a position of power in our current industry, let's beware of becoming so popular and open on social media, that not aligning ourselves with the temporary “public topic trending opinion” will put us out of business.
See you next week!
