2- Book recommendation for the week.
Conceived in Liberty by Murray Rothbard.
(This one will take more than a week but is a great way to get a different view on many of today’s issues in the USA and the rest of the world.)
Conceived in Liberty is a five-volume narrative history of the United States, written by economist and libertarian theorist Murray Rothbard. It covers the period from the pre-colonial era to the early years of the American republic.
Here are some of the key themes in Conceived in Liberty:
-The American Revolution was a libertarian revolution.
-The United States has been moving away from liberty since its founding.
-The government is the main threat to liberty.
-Individual freedom is the most important value.
Critical reception:
Conceived in Liberty has been praised for its scholarship and its unique perspective on American history. However, it has also been criticized for its libertarian bias and its selective use of evidence.
3- My analysis on today’s topic.
This past week, I’ve been reading a lot of news and hearing from many people that they are fed up with their job and they need a change. However, when you start looking into it, you realize that they are just looking for another job that can help them cover their high expenses, but there’s no interest in taking the risk to build something new or looking to become their own boss… The problem that I see with this is that the change will only function as an aspirin to suppress the pain, but won’t actually solve the problem in the long run. I believe that compounding is the name of the game, and when you move from one job to another without really increasing your wages, without investing your money, or having an exit plan, you disrupt the process and lose money. It is my opinion that when you are fed up with a job, it's because you are uncomfortable with not being able to accomplish your financial goals, you don’t have enough time to do what you love, or you are consuming too much social media and don’t understand how so many people could be rich and successful while you have to stay working all day. (Just be aware that influencing is a business and if they have a product to sell you and/or a referral link, the whole rich gig is fake, and you are the one providing the money to support their lifestyle.)
The reality is that the FIAT money world is a never-ending story of going to work, accumulating enough money to retire with the same quality lifestyle you have now, with a little catch: Inflation and taxation will dilute your purchasing power, so your entire game is rigged and requires you to work extra. No wonder people get fed up. But you can see that the problem is not in the job; it's the fact that most people don’t understand money and, most importantly, don’t understand the value of their time. Investing in yourself has never been a waste. So, in my view, quitting your job to start your own business, educating yourself to become a better resource allocator, respecting your body and your spirit by providing good food, outdoor activities, friends and family time, and enough sleep is the real goal. What’s the point of moving to another job if it only brings an extra 10% salary a month? A little reminder that your purchasing power dilutes about 12% a year, so your change is useless unless you double or triple your wages and if you are in Argentina, your diluting number just went up to 3 digits. Many people will argue that starting your own business will put you in debt and you risk losing everything… well, yes, but here comes my favorite analysis: what’s the risk return of your investment? It is easy to talk numbers when everything is going up, but what’s the risk return of the investment when things don’t work out for you? Your own business has no upside limit, and the downside only depends on how much you are willing to do to make it succeed. You can break even and call it the day, or you can make it into the next Amazon or Tesla. When it comes to working for someone else, the upside return is as high as your boss wants it to be, but the downside is getting fired and having to start from 0 or a negative number if your previous employers don’t want to give you a good referral. To me, it is very scary to start a journey where the outcome only depends on you… but it’s also the only way to achieve real wealth, financial independence, and a great return on investment for your time. Your passion, your dreams, and your skills are a combination that can give you everything you see in other successful people. The only difference I see between them and the people who don't make it is that they were just smart and fearful enough to scale, take a risk, and hire skilled people to help them build the life many others are trying to get with a meaningless backdrop change.
See you next week!

2- Recomendación de libro para la semana.
Conceived in Liberty, escrito por Murray Rothbard.
