2- Book recommendation for the week.
"Check Your Financial Privilege" by Alex Gladstein
Alex Gladstein has a lot to say about Bitcoin, human rights, financial privilege, and personal freedom. In "Check Your Financial Privilege," he begins by stating that anyone born into a reserve currency like the euro, yen, or pound enjoys financial privilege over the 89% of the world's population born into weaker systems.
3- The Editorial:
As we delve into today’s topic, let’s start by understanding that being wealthier and rich doesn't come for free; it is the product of someone’s proof of work. Most importantly, 90% of wealthy people, especially #Bitcoiners, didn't get to where they are by luck. There are many stories of what people had to endure to achieve success, but very little focus on how much conviction, self-esteem, and endurance it takes to understand your own value proposition and allow yourself to become the best version of you.
In the USA and many European countries, access to a strong currency that allows you to achieve financial success is normal. Things like #realestate, #gold, and #Bitcoin are simple financial tools that allow us to become richer. But what happens when you travel to a different country like Venezuela, Argentina, Brazil, Mexico, etc.? The wealth exists in those places but is a completely different story than the one we are being told. The countries that are victims of corrupt politicians and bankers always end up at the mercy of the #IMF, basically a loan shark for small countries that cannot sustain themselves economically due to a lack of a strong currency.
Why do I call the IMF a loan shark? Because it's never about helping the people. Instead, the idea is to provide a loan impossible to pay and impose terrible living conditions on the population, in order to avoid complete currency destruction. However, if the country cannot pay, there’s always the chance to repay with natural resources or any other commodities that may serve the big countries who control the majority of the IMF votes. Can you imagine who the major shareholder of this institution is? Yes, the USA.
As you can see, the USA decides to print infinite dollars, creating instability for every country with a weak currency pegged to the dollar system. Then these countries go out and seek loans to recover, and then countries like the USA authorize the loan. It's pretty much a big scam that never ends. Because once you get inflation in the USA, you may need an extra job or to cut your Starbucks for a couple of months, but for these other people, it means a complete destruction of their dreams and opportunities.
Here’s where the #Bitcoin pitch comes in handy. If they save in #Bitcoin and they can HODL for 5+ years, they can become rich and the opportunities come back. Well, not so fast. Latin America has a terrible history of being robbed, enslaved, betrayed, and basically always dependent on the benevolence of another major country. Depending on which political party is in power, you get submission to China and the left side of the world, or submission to the USA and a move to the right.
The fact that places like #Argentina have been so jealous of the #dollar reserves, has created a mentality where acquiring dollars is the only way to achieve financial independence. It doesn’t matter if you get them by creating an unrepayable debt in the process, as long as you have dollars in the central bank reserves, everything is good.
It is very understandable that when you show these people the volatile nature of #Bitcoin in #dollar price, they will run in the opposite direction. And of course, as soon as a stable coin like Tether (A token pegged to the dollar) presents an opportunity to acquire and save dollars outside of the #Argentinean banking system, everyone will prefer to go there where they cannot be robbed, taxed, or devalued. (Or so they think…)
This is the reason why I still believe that financial education is so important in order to help Latin America and other small countries understand the value proposition that #Bitcoin can bring into their everyday life. Inflation in the United States has changed the value proposition of the dollar around the world, and #Bitcoin is exposing that change with every new coin that gets mined. But Latin America still prefers the dollar because, for them, it proposes the same scarcity that we see in #Bitcoin.
Of course, if you only dine and visit wealthy people in #Argentina, they will tell you that is not true, but none of them really know what happens to a family when a president tells the country things like: “The free market will accommodate itself and prices will go down once demand is destroyed.” Well, that demand happens to be those people who, sadly, will never recover from the proposed solution by those who never had to take a cold shower or choose between dinner for themselves or feeding their kids. They get bribed to go to protest every day, but for someone who hasn't had a good meal or has been convinced that the rich have robbed them of their future, you don’t need much incentive to bribe them.
What can we do about it? Well, as I heard on a podcast a couple of days ago, for those who can reach these people by speaking the same language, passing the information along, and knowing what they are going through, we cannot just be content with the fact that we moved to a wealthier country and reached the land of opportunities, we cannot just complain about the FIAT system but not try to help someone new every day, we cannot keep #Bitcoin a secret and show off our wealth in the future to those that didn’t have the conviction to pursue this path.
We must do our part to enhance the network because that will help #Bitcoin and benefit us at the same time, but most importantly because the people that haven’t seen the true face of the dollar financial system, will not understand how risky it is to put all your savings there. For the past 15 years, #Bitcoin has grown and is reaching the maturity of a commodity that can hold its value against inflation, currency devaluations, confiscation, taxation, and most importantly, it will teach them the need to generate a value proposition to move forward as a country with the same opportunities we have here in the USA.
Sounds like a utopia? Well, for people in #Argentina, it may be at this point, but they lack memory and they don’t remember when the corrupt politicians told their parents back in 2001: “Your deposits are safe, and whoever has a deposit in dollars will receive dollars.” Of course, that never happened, and the money was gone overnight, along with those dollars that never came back.
Argentina is choosing the path of solving the economic problems one more time by taking a cash advance from a Credit Card (IMF) that doesn’t provide you 0% interest for 12 months like we have in the USA, and whether Javier Milei is a Libertarian or not doesn't matter because his ideals got compromised the day he negotiated a coalition with the IMF favorite party in order to win the presidency. Don’t get me wrong… I’d have these guys in charge any day if the other option is the corrupt mafia that was governing the country for the past 80 years and love to create chaos and ignorance around the place.
Gaslighting people with shiny objects won’t stop the fact that the FIAT system is designed to destroy the purchasing power of the people, and that by living on a dependency of the dollar, smaller countries are like those people that got to travel at the lowest floor aboard the Titanic. No safe raft available for them… Oh wait… there is one option available. It’s called #Bitcoin, but they will never know about it unless we do our part as users of this network that has given us so much to be thankful for.
I continue to say “Pay It forward”… Like the Spanish songwriter Patxi Andion said: "You never wanted to save yourself alone, because you said there is no salvation if it's not with everyone." If you're plugged into the #Bitcoin network, you are part of the network effect, you are part of maintaining it alive by educating the world about it, and making sure Satoshi’s legacy stays intact for generations to benefit from it… otherwise, you were just looking for a lottery ticket to provide you with a seat at the table along with the rest of the FIAT crowd that we criticize so much.
Latin America and other small countries around the world will see the benefit of #Bitcoin at some point, but it's very important that we share the news with the same effort that we criticize those we don’t like. I don’t believe in “Bitcoin Heroes” anymore, but I believe in the phrase “Don’t trust, Verify” and I believe the only way for the world outside of the dollar system to truly benefit from #Bitcoin is to receive the information in a way they can understand it before it gets priced out of their reach… #Bitcoin is for everyone… let’s not keep it a secret. If you still think #Bitcoin has no use… please check your privilege and your finances, just in case…
Study #Bitcoin.

Bueno, no tan rápido.
Estudia #Bitcoin.
